Case Study: Tufts New England Medical Center

The Need
New pediatric neurologists around the country needed to learn how to conduct examinations for cerebral palsy on children and be tested to ensure their performance readiness. To meet the required certification process, the challenge was to create a learning solution that could be implemented at teaching hospitals throughout the country, demonstrating in great detail the thirty discreet steps of the examination, and a detailed assessment of performance.

The Solution
MSA Solutions designed and developed a comprehensive CD-ROM-based learning program with over sixty minutes of video demonstrations and instructions for physicians covering the proper examination procedures. The comprehensive, self-paced learning program also included, to meet the rigorous certification requirements, 120 random testing scenarios to assess learner knowledge.

The Results
Physicians in over 300 teaching hospitals nationwide now have access to a 'gold standard' for how a pediatric examination for cerebral palsy should be conducted and a formal comprehensive certification process. It has become an adopted tool used by hospitals for testing of neurologists and as a resource for ongoing review and reinforcement of evidence-based practices. A second phase of the training is now being designed to address related aspects of the pediatric neurology curriculum.
